DIGITAL EXHIBITION: ‘YKPAÏHA/UKRAINE’

3 August 2026 by Geopolis

On 24 February 2026, Ukraine entered its fifth year of war. At the start of the conflict, Géopolis launched a digital platform chronicling the history of Ukraine.

With a passion for Eastern Europe, and specifically the former USSR, some members of the Géopolis Centre team know this region very well, particularly Ukraine. A few days before the war began, the centre’s coordinators – former editors-in-chief of the magazine Gare de l’Est – were in fact producing a radio report across the length and breadth of Ukraine to mark the 30th anniversary of the collapse of the USSR.

Géopolis also supported the establishment of the 24 February Group, which brings together researchers, diplomats and community leaders who took action following the outbreak of the conflict.

Building on these various initiatives, Géopolis has decided to launch an educational platform dedicated to the history of Ukraine. This platform, aimed at teachers, pupils and the general public, features, amongst other things, short video clips from the RTBF archives and interviews with researchers specialising in Ukraine.

Podcast | A Spaniard on the Ukrainian front

30 July 2026 by Geopolis

This episode of À la barbe du globe delves into the daily life of Gonzalo, a Spanish volunteer engaged at the heart of the Ukrainian conflict.

Known as the volunteer Puma, he has been splitting his time between Brussels and the Ukrainian front since the start of the invasion. An activist, documentary filmmaker and volunteer, he works as close as possible to the lines to deliver humanitarian supplies and protective equipment. Between two rotations, he films, writes and documents the war to bear witness to what is really happening on the ground and give a voice to those who resist.

Puma is also one of the founders of a Ukrainian cultural collective born in Brussels in 2024. Its aim: to turn art into a tool for concrete support. Concerts, exhibitions, events — each initiative becomes a direct way to fund the resistance and humanitarian projects in Ukraine.

Guest: Gonzalo, aka Puma

Host and producer: Ulrich Huygevelde

Theme music: Neville Brothers – Voo Doo
